POETRY CV PROFILE Alice Benson - direct descendant of writer E.F Benson, and poet and playwright Friedrich Von Schiller. I was inspired while researching Schiller at the Goethe institute, to write my first poem, which won the Time Out Magazine Poetry Competition. I write from the heart when I am angry, happy or sad. I explain before each poem why I felt inspired to write the words that I perform. For example, I would often see queues of taxis on hot days with their engines still on, waiting at their rank. Their polluting fumes eventually made my friend who works next to that taxi rank develop breathing difficulties. Anger made me write a short poem, called Pollution, which was later published.
